Life has a way of giving everyone a second chance to our mistakes, as posted by Starlight Foundation. Most of us have risen by the constant correction of the things we did wrong so that our lives would move in the right direction. When it comes to the issues of street children, we’ve not done much.
We complain of our roads, hospitals, and other social amenities and not street children. We draw projects and budgets and their names are missing in them. Chances have been created in several ways to address their issues even on the national level. The availability of an authority who manages the affairs of children demands that the needs of these children should be addressed in all possible ways.
In this year’s celebration of international day for street children, the responsibility towards them has been narrowed to giving them access to the things that are meant for them.
This is our chance to prove that their existence matter, it does not require sending the country into debt, if plans have been made for them then we need to implement them. These are children who have been surviving in all possible ways and it would require few actions to put them in their rightful place in society. Their rightful place is to be in school, being fed and protected. If that is not the story then any other thing is a failure.
The street is not a safe place for any child and this is the message Starlight Foundation powered by Adamfo Ghana is preaching in schools in its Teach Them Young initiative. In school, they are not only taught things in the books, not real-life instances.
Some children have discovered themselves in schools and this is what we wish for our street-connected children, that they may also be exposed to things beyond just working for food. Their mental health is also key, to be a child is to have a free mind devoid of suffering. They have not reached the stage to be providers, they are takers.
The authorities of Sensels School believe that their children should remain in school and off the street and thus gave access to us to impact their children with this knowledge. We thank them for that gesture and urge all of us to be vessels of good impacts in our children especially those of the street.
