Our Mixed Age classrooms offer a program that meets the needs of a wide range of children’s abilities and developmental levels. Learning is individualized. Children in a mixed age group have the chance to learn from older children and to help younger children. Children with different levels of abilities within themselves benefit from a mixed age classroom, because materials and activities are offered in a wider range and they can find what meets their individual needs.

At this stage, children are ready to learn abstract principles. We encourage them to work at their own pace in a non-competitive environment, to gain an understanding of themselves and develop a sensitivity to others. Children may work alone or in groups, in an atmosphere of courtesy and respect. Teachers focus a great deal of individual attention on children. While in groups, older children share their knowledge and get younger children excited about learning.
